Laura Maes is a Belgian music maker. Initially trained as a classical guitarist, her focus soon shifted towards electronic music and sound art. In 2013 she succesfully defended her PhD dissertation Sounding Sound Art: A study of the definition, origin, context, and techniques of sound art. She is active as a musician in various ensembles and has presented several sound works in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom and Denmark. She has worked together with, amongst others, Roel Meelkop, Claus Van Bebber, Kristof Lauwers, Noise-Maker’s Fifes, Pierre Berthet, Logos Foundation, Crew, Q-O2 & Black Jackets Company. 

She has worked as a curator for arts centre Vooruit and the festival for new music, Happy New Ears. She was head of the cultural department of the city of Ostend and worked as a researcher at University College Ghent, Faculty of Music & Drama.  She was the chairperson of Cling Film, a concert organisation and record label of experimental music (1996-2003).

Currently, she is a member of the management board of vzw Kong, ComiTEE Mu.ZEE, Musica and the Logos Foundation.
